Stained glass artist born in Winchester and brought up in Dublin having returned there as a three-year-old. In 1943 he began painting under the tuition of sculptor Oisin Kelly and later studied at the National College of Art & Design in his adopted city. In 1957 won the Mainnie Jellet Scholarship for painting in Ireland and after extensive European travel, he attended the Jan Van Eyck Academy in Holland, where he began working with stained glass under Albert Troost, (1924-2010). During the 1960's he worked on several commissions for stained glass in churches throughout Ireland. In the 1970's he commenced etching at the Graphic Studio Dublin, where he continues working in this medium. In 1981 he was elected to Aosdana and in 1991 to the RHA.
