Painter and lithographer, born in Amsterdam, Holland and taught by his father, Jean Charles Pierre Houthuesen also a painter.

Albert moved to London in 1912 a year after his father’s death. He studied at St. Martin's School of Art as a part-time evening student, 1917-20 working at a variety of odd-jobs to make ends meet. In 1923 he was awarded a Scholarship to the RCA, where his piers included Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Edward Burra, Ceri Richard and Cecil Collins.
